The Moeller group is using electrochemistry as a new tool for the synthesis and manipulation of both organic molecules and addressable surfaces. The methods being developed will be employed by CenSURF to recycle enzyme inspired chemical reagents that are useful for the oxidative cleavage of lignin. In so doing, we will translate what nature teaches us about lignin disassembly into environmentally benign strategies for the generation of biomass-derived starting materials.
